5. Lecture Browser Usage

5.1 Versions

Development of the Lecture Browser underwent several iterations. An initial experimental version (Version 0) served as a prototype for discussion. After informal feedback, the interface of version 0 was changed to a functional prototype for user studies (Version 1). Verbal feedback and analysis of usage based on user study tasks then resulted in the final version (Version 2).

5.2 Use of Color

Color is used to identify media types in the Lecture Browser. The five media types of slides, sections, and topics assume a color scheme that visually separates the data:
  • Board = green
  • Class = cyan
  • Computer = red
  • Podium = blue
  • Sheet = yellow

The colors correspond to the classroom as outlined in the Classroom Color Analogy.

5.3 Opening Image Data for a Class

After starting the Lecture Browser, the image data from a lecture class can be loaded by using the Open File icon in the toolbar. Select the top-level directory, which contains the five (or less) media type directories.
