2.9.1 Voting by Rank

Voting by Rank entails the Voter ranking a Recipient or Company within an industry with integers 1 through N, where N is the number of Recipients or Companies. Ranks are contained within each industry, so that the Voter essentially ranks the Recipients/Companies within an industry.

Ranks must adhere to the following conditions:

  • ranks must begin with integer 1
  • ranks may not be skipped, e.g. 1,2,4,5,6
  • ranks may not contain duplicates, e.g. 1,2,3,3,4,5
  • all Recipients/Companies within an industry must be ranked at once

For any industry that contains false ranks, all ranks for that industry are removed from the database, as wrong ranks invalidate the data for an entire industry.

After ranks have been successfully assigned in an industry, and a Recipient/Company is removed from that industry, then if the ranks no longer satisfy the conditions above, they are removed from the database for this industry. For example, for 3 correctly ranked Recipients, only the Recipient with rank 3 can be removed without invalidating the ranking data. If the Recipients ranked 1 and 2 are removed, ranks are no longer valid and are thus removed from the database.
